The connecting element between the smart machine and data evaluation is the IIoT Gateway, which enables edge computing. Here your process data is collected, processed and sent to the cloud. Data aggregation in the gateway is particularly important to ensure a fast database even with large amounts of data. In contrast, IIoT is about communication and networking between different machines and systems in industrial context. With the help of sensors and actuators, different data and information can be collected. This is how manufacturing processes can be optimized.
IoT stands for "Internet of Things." IIoT stands for "industrial Internet of Things" and refers to the use of IoT solutions in industrial environments. It is designed to connect the Information Technology (IT) domain with Operational Technology (OT) to drive digitalization. .
The goal is to control, monitor and optimize production processes. Numerous data are collected through the networking of machines and systems. When this data is evaluated and analyzed, important insights can be gained that can increase productivity, reduce downtime and thus save costs.
Through the use of sensors and embedded systems, information on the status of machines and plants is collected via industrial communication channels (fieldbuses), such as OPC UA. These large volumes of data are challenging to process so that even real-time relevant processes can run without errors.
In a cloud, this data is then collected, evaluated and displayed in clear dashboards. It is important to ensure that this data is protected from access by unauthorized persons. That is why different security elements are used.
It also increases automation and optimizes the value chain. The collected data can be used, for example, to optimally determine maintenance intervals (predictive maintenance), which leads to less downtime.
